I love window boxes. They are a great way to enjoy flowers or…
simply ivy without a huge investment or a large piece of ground.
They are perfect for a city home and in Charleston one beautiful, sunny, winter day I found lots of inspiration!
For example this group along one of the residential streets on the lower part of the peninsula that we call “South of Broad”.
Here is one of the three above – I love the use of the croton, a tropical plant, in the center.
Simplicity rules here with white flowers against a white painted brick wall.
Here the homeowner has grouped planters and boxes with similar plants and colors.
This metal “box” works well with this home’s wrought iron – a common Charleston decoration.
Porch railings lend themselves to window boxes too!
These beautiful window boxes aren’t only in the residential district. Walking up King Street finds lots of businesses with colorful arrangements.
And East Bay restaurants show off spring-like displays all winter long in this temperate climate.
How is the weather where YOU live? Are you ready to set up a box or two? Perhaps in a sunny, sheltered area to wait until the last frost has passed. I know I’m ready!
