Two gees kissing and a duck friend Benson Arizona

Kissing Geese and their pal Duck!

Springtime in Southern Arizona is much like other deserts of the Southwest.  The grasses are greening, the fruit and nut trees are just starting to blossom out.  You still see the dry of the leftover winter, but all in all it is a wonderful place to visit in late February.

I know it is now the middle of summer, but I hope you enjoy our springtime adventure and that you are inspired to visit when the weather cools.

We started from our home in Southern Nevada and by day two were were passing Tuscon headed to our RV part in Benson. We have a trailer that we haul everywhere. Both of us enjoy that kind of travel and always choose it over motels or hotels.  We will stay in RV parks or out in the middle of the hinterlands, which I prefer!  In Nevada that kind of camping means coyotes howling, owl hooting and other creatures on the move.

This also holds true for Arizona.

The RV park in Benson has several little fresh ponds filled with ducks and geese.  They were use to humans and posed several times for my camera!

These guys are so funny!  I laugh every time I look at these pictures.

Looking out across the immense valley spread out below Saguaro National Park was a wonderful site to behold.  The light was perfect and those cacti stood perfectly still for my shot. 🙂

This is a punked-out Saguaro…. haha, it looks that way to me!

San Xavier del Bac Mission

This gorgeous white building rising out of the desert can be seen for miles!  It is Mission San Xavier del Bac, a historic Spanish Catholic mission located about 10 miles south of downtown Tucson.  It is located on the Tohono O’odham San Xavier Indian Reservation.  It is more than 300 years old!

Inside San Xavier mission

You enter through huge white doors and into this enormous room!  It is breathtaking and so ornate.

This building is regarded as the premier example of Spanish Colonial architecture, San Xavier del Bac is the only church of its kind within the U.S. that is largely intact in its original form. During the more than 200-year history of the Mission, non-compatible materials were used at times in repairs.  The building is undergoing renovations to preserve the 18th centuries paintings and the statuary of the interior.   Read more about the preservation and even donate to the cause here  Patrona San Xavier.

When we arrived it was late in the afternoon.  I was so excited as I saw people selling fresh tamales and I LOVE fresh tamales.  Unfortunately, we were too late as the lady just in front of us got the last one of the day!  I kept my scream muffled. 🙂

At the end of our day we drove back to our RV and had dinner and some wine.  Next day, we packed up and headed home.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and are happy for all the great experiences.

I love living in Southern Nevada and enjoy our desert home.  It is especially nice as we can find incredible red rock hikes and views in our own backyard but out from here in every direction, there are unique experiences waiting.
