When I was a child I started collecting recipes.  I would go through both of my grandmother’s handwritten recipes, find my favorite dishes and copy them down.  Those recipes mean the world to me.  I keep them in an old tin box.

They are my childhood, my legacy from my immigrant grandparents.  Long before my oldest child left home I decided to create a cookbook for each of my children with their favorites and also to include my favorites from my childhood in there.  I let each of them pick out what they wanted for their “legacy cookbook” and which favorites they wanted me to put in there and then I added in the other recipes.  Some day they will appreciate those the most.  Here is my daughter’s cookbook.

I love this book.  Everything about it.  The colors.  The feeling I get when I look at the cover.  I hope she has a lifetime of favorites in this book and that one day her grandchild will sit and copy down some “legacy” favorites!

If you are thinking about doing this or have become inspired by my post, they are relatively easy to find.  Most larger Hallmark stores carry at least one or two to chose from.  Barnes and Noble is another great place to look and any other regional bookstores in your area.  Of course on-line is always an option.  I like to see, feel touch before I buy sometimes and this was definitely one of those types of purchases.
