Hello everyone, I’m Dee Lapin and I was asked to do a Spotlight this week. I have had a passion for arts and decorating ever since I could remember. Even as a child I loved to move large pieces of furniture around the room to get the right balance, even though they were almost the same size as me. Even at 9 years old, I was the one who picked out of my French furniture and then decorated photo frames to match.
I was always making rag rugs and cool things to hang on my walls. I remember decorating glass bottles with dried flat peas and then spray painting them silver and gold at a very young age. Neighbors and family always wanted my art and paintings as soon as they saw it. To this day they still have most of them displayed. I also love to draw and over the years won many awards in school. I once won a coloring contest for McDonald’s. My neighbor encouraged me to sign up for it. It was then I knew I wanted to be an artist, so I went to college to be a textile designer.
A friend of mine had a glass engraver and I asked him if I could give it a try. Well I was hooked and started working on my own car windows. I drew out this huge dragon and started to engrave it. Everyone who saw it wanted their windows engraved. One of my best jobs was engraving the car windows for a show car and it won best looking! I had a full time job, but I still wanted to be creative and involved in decorating. So I started buying homes and fixing them up and flipping them well before flipping was popular. I would decorate them with some of my art and they would sell pretty quickly. I have helped my friends and family decorate their homes over the years. I love seeing their eyes light up when I give them decorating advice. Now if I could only get them to pay!
