With the bounty of fresh fruits summer is such a wonderful opportunity to try new recipes. My favorite desserts always involve a flaky pie crust!
I came across this Plum Crostata recipe in one of my many folders that hold bits and pieces – cutouts from newspapers and pages ripped from magazines (some that were carefully extracted while in a doctor’s waiting room. Insert smiley face). This particular find had been scribbled on a scrap of paper.
Unfortunately, I do not have a plum tree but Costco has these beautiful California plums and they proved a perfect mix of tart and texture. When tossed with the sugar and cinnamon, and matched with the wonderful buttery crust, the most amazing epicurean event occurred. It really is that good.
It was enjoyed with a small glass of red jug wine called Paisano and it was indeed a complimentary, slightly sweet marriage of yumminess.
The only regret was that it only served six and since there were six of us there were no seconds to be had!
Next weekend I think I’ll make two of these and perhaps whip up some fresh vanilla ice cream and make sure that I’m home alone for the entire afternoon.
